3 Reasons Why Conservatism Is Dying In America
If you’re against modernized gender roles, have an unexplainable reverence for religion, see no problems with social hierarchy, and embrace private ownership, it’s highly likely that you’re a conservative.
Be proud of yourself. Everyone has a right to their belief systems.
However, just like the sabertooth tiger and the elephant, conservative ideals and tendencies are slowly becoming extinct.
Whether this is good or bad news remains undetermined, but it’s obvious that our children will not be taught the same morals and values we were taught as kids.
And it’s too soon for us to say whether this will make them into more rounded adults than we are, or will expose them to truths and ideas they are incapable of handling.
Studies show that 34% of Americans identified as conservative in 2020.
That’s way less than half the population, and way less than in the past.
If you’ve ever wondered where the conservatives went, or why they left, the following will shed light on the matter:
- The Death Of George Floyd
The protests and activism caused by George Floyd’s death in police custody severely affected the nation’s view on the conservative lifestyle that is the mantra of the Republican party.
Americans weren’t happy with the way the incident was handled and that saw many conservative people switching sides.
Studies indicate that in June 2020, many Americans ceased to identify themselves as Republican.
George Floyd died on May 25th, 2020.
Coincidence? Highly unlikely.
2. The Effects of Covid-19 On The Economy
Studies indicate that in January and February of 2020, there was a slight advantage to the conservative side.
After the pandemic hit in March, hearts began to change. Unfortunately for Republicans, those hearts haven’t gone back to their first love.
As the nation continued to struggle with containing the spread of the virus, the trust in traditional conservative values continued to erode.
3. America’s Trust Issues With Donald Trump
Donald Trump faced an impeachment in late 2019 but was acquitted of all charges. However, his response to the failing economy and the social injustice set on display by the death of George Floyd caused the public to lose trust in his administration.
Studies indicated that less than 40% of Americans thought Trump was doing a good job in June of 2020.
What are the stats currently you ask?
There’s a new sheriff in town, but the figures aren’t that much better — all the more indicating the complexity of political issues.
If you’re non-American, you might find it strange that people base their entire worldview on their political parties.
But if you know anything about right wing and left wing ideologies, political affiliations are often deeply reflective of deeper character traits.
Is there a correct approach to living? That’s entirely up to you, but for the sake of our children, conservatism must not be eliminated — if anything, it stands for some fundamental liberties that must be protected.
If that goes away, our children’s experience will likely be much poorer for it.
If you are a conservative or was previously conservative, chances are that there were some principles you learned as a child that you’d love for your children to inherit.
If that’s true on any account, the onus is on you to make conservative resources available to them.
Isn’t the freedom to choose something we want for all our kids?
