You’re probably tired of hearing about how this or that company is doing terrible things to the environment.

We’re bombarded with that kind of bad news every day it seems, and there’s nothing we can really do about it.

That’s not always the case though — sometimes we can do something about it.

We, The People, Can Vote.

I’m not talking about an election, I’m talking about hitting these companies where it hurts — in their checkbook.

Every time you make a purchase, you’re voting with your wallet.

You can make a difference just by purchasing your clothes from sustainable fashion companies that are working to limit or eliminate their environmental footprint.

You don’t need to compromise on style either, there are lots of fantastic fashion brands that are doing everything they can to make their products sustainable.

How Can You Tell?

Luckily, it’s not hard to find out which forward-thinking fashion lines are doing their part.

The ones that aren’t — likely don’t want to talk about it.

The ones that are will happily provide information about their efforts.

All you have to do is take a few seconds to look.

What To Look For?

Well, it depends on what kind of clothing you’re looking for.

For example, if you’re looking for a stylish winter jacket, consider the insulation.

Instead of down, which is made from goose or duck plumage — try a vegan option.

One excellent alternative is called Primaloft PowerPlume — it’s just as warm, but with no animal-derived ingredients.

Another great innovation — some companies are reusing old plastic fabrics to make new garments, in a way that doesn’t compromise on quality.

It’s called the Eco Circle Recycle System, and it involves shredding old polyester into very tiny pieces and then spinning that into new yarn.

More Than Materials

The footprint of fashion companies includes a lot more than just what their clothes are made of.

They ship products all over the world, and that means fossil fuels.

While some emissions are unavoidable, there are responsible fashion brands that have programs in place to offset their carbon output.

There are lots of ways they can do this, but one of the most popular methods is simply by planting a certain amount of trees for every tonne of carbon.

You can also watch for things like minimal packaging — that will reduce how much plastic is wasted just to wrap up your order.

Do Your Part — The Easy Way

It’s not hard to make a difference, all you need to do is vote with your wallet.

Find a sustainable fashion brand that’s doing its part, and then make your voice heard every time you make a purchase.

We can’t fix the planet all by ourselves, but we can make a difference.

Your vote matters — so make it count.
